1. Take a Look at the Queries Report:
First, let’s look for the phrases for which you are almost ranking high. It can be found in Google analytics in this report: Acquisition> Search> console>queries.

- ii. The exact number of times you have appeared in Google (impressions).
- iii. The number of clicks your page has generated from the phrases.
- iv. The report also shows your average position for phrases (how high you’ve ranked).

Since we are on the lookout for phrases that already rank in Google but still need to rank better, an advanced filter will search for phrases that rank high but not too high. The concept is that a page that has ranking greater than 10 is always high on page two.
The assumption is that there are about 10 organic search listings on page one; thus, that isn’t the case but it is close enough for us to make it work out. This means that an advanced filter asks Google analytics this question “What phrases do I rank with on page two?”
For example, when I searched for “How to Make a Wedding Cake”, this was found on page two of Google! It is pretty obvious that no one would ever want to rank on page two, but the good part is that a high ranking on page two is almost page one. This just means sitting a point below the gold pot.
3. Sort the Report by Rankings
To sort out this report, you need to click the column header’s average position. It is required to click it twice so you can see the 11’s at the top. Then make an Analytics “Shortcut”.
You need to save your filtered sorted queries report as a shortcut. This step is easier to get to the next. Click on the “Shortcut” link above the report, name it and click on OK. The report will surely be available anytime in the left side navigation of Google analytics.
4. Check through This List, Search for Phrases and Verify the Rankings
if you are observant, you will indeed notice that this report shows some strange phases or things that appear less relevant. Well, you don’t have to bother about it because almost every site ranks for unrelated phrases as well. Just ignore and don’t pay attention. It is likely that the report may show phrases that do include things like the brand name.
