This article will show you how to optimize your website using the best practices and tactics. You can improve your rankings; increase your sales and overall site performance. This guide is extensive because you need to instill proper SEO in every aspect of your online marketing and PR.

This post assumes you are using Yoast SEO plugin. It adds a lot more features and SEO tools. You can get started with Yoast SEO right away if you don’t have it installed.

1. Get Your Basic WordPress SEO Right Now

WordPress is an excellent content management system. Without the need for theme optimization or plugins, a basic setup can be sufficient to provide a solid foundation. To improve your ranking and optimize your website, here are some things you can do.

You can build a strong foundation by ensuring that the basic settings are in place and using simple techniques.

Check the health of your site

It is essential to assess where your website stands before making significant changes. It’s essential to get it right. Your website should be running on an updated server at a web host with excellent performance.

Ask yourself this question: What hardware and software do your websites run on? What hosting plan do you have? Is your hosting plan a shared or budget-friendly one?

You can access the Site Health section of WordPress to see what’s happening behind the scenes. This plugin provides technical insight and can be used by outside parties to improve your site. All features of the Health Check plugin are going to WordPress core eventually.

Site Health provides a snapshot of your site’s performance

Make sure you are using the right hosting

WordPress’s technical requirements page states that the best hosting plan for WordPress should include PHP, MySQL, or MariaDB versions, as well as HTTPS support. Although it is possible to use older server software, this is not recommended.

You can view the technical details of your install by checking your Site Health. You can also see the plan type by opening your hosting provider’s dashboard.

Paying for quality WordPress hosting is a wise investment – one of the simplest improvements you can make to your hosting plan.

Upgrade to PHP 7.0 or higher

While these numbers are dropping rapidly, many WordPress sites still use outdated PHP versions. A quick look at WordPress stats shows that approximately 15% of sites still use PHP versions in the five series. PHP 7.0 and higher have been around for many years.

Although backward compatibility is excellent, it hinders WordPress’ potential as a technology and prevents site owners from making the most of their sites. These older PHP versions are less secure and more vulnerable to attacks.

The WordPress team has stopped supporting PHP 5.6 and older. The project recommends that WordPress be run on PHP 7.3 or higher.

You can improve the security and performance of your site by upgrading to the latest PHP version. This has many benefits:

  • PHP 7 provides a tremendous speed boost.
  • It runs much more efficiently and causes less stress to your server.
  • You can add a lot of modern development features.
  • It is safer and more secure.
  • It’s future-proof.

This is what we all desire. You should now have an idea of the current configuration of your website’s hosting. If this is the case, it is good to upgrade outdated software, such as PHP 5.5.

Take extra care when doing this. If you’re unsure of what you’re doing, ask for assistance.

These are the steps you should take:

  • Always back up your website.
  • Create a local staging area using a current version of PHP.
  • You can also backup your site to that server.
  • To ensure that everything is working correctly, test it thoroughly.

Your hosting provider will usually upgrade your live website.

This post will show you how to create a test environment for WordPress. WordPress.org offers a blog post that explains the benefits of upgrading your PHP version and considers when doing so.

Get an SSL

It required an HTTPS URL and a green padlock icon to be displayed in the browser URL bar.

SSL is an optional security feature that many sites don’t need.

A valid SSL certificate is required today. Search engines can ‘penalize’ sites that do not have valid SSL certificates or setups and show warnings next to the search results. It is suitable for websites to use SSL to protect against hackers and third-party interceptors of requests and data.

Valid SSL/HTTPS certificates are essential for modern site speed and performance. Browsers such as Firefox and Google Chrome require that the website has a valid SSL certificate to take advantage of faster web technologies like HTTP/2 or the upcoming HTTP/3.

Check your site settings

Spend some time looking through the WordPress Settings menu. Many of these options can impact the SEO of your WordPress website.

It’s important to double-check your visibility settings under Settings – Reading to make sure you are not preventing search engines from indexing your website. This would affect your visibility.

Also, make sure your Writing and Reading settings have been set up correctly. These control the default categories that will be displayed on your homepage. In Settings – General, give your site an engaging tagline!

Choose the best permalink structure

Your permalink settings determine the format of your page and post URLs, which has a significant impact on SEO. If you create a new website, you must change your permalink settings. These settings can be found in Settings – Permalinks.

If you do not change the default settings, your URLs will look like this: example.com/p=123. This is fine, but it is not very nice. It can also impact the way search engines and users perceive your pages’ quality and relevance.

Modifying the permalink structure can affect your website’s URL components, order, and structure. Choosing the proper structure for your website is crucial when you set it up. Changing it later could cause SEO problems.

You can change the permalink setting to “%postname%,” as follows:

Change the permalink settings from ‘Post name’ in Settings.

If you have?p= in the past, WordPress will manage all redirects for your permalink.

If you want to change from another permalink structure, I recommend that you read our article on changing the WordPress permalink structure. It also includes the tool that you will find in it.

It is essential to consider what your site should look like at www.example.com and www.example.com. You should ensure that the version you wish to display is correctly reflected in your General Settings, under Settings – General.

Set the URL of your site to include or omit “www.”

SEO-wise, the differences are minimal. Most hosting and server configurations will automatically redirect any requests for the wrong’ version to the one you have selected. This is primarily a branding issue. Which approach works best for your website?

Technically, there isn’t much difference. While some setups may have minor problems if the ‘www” component is not included, these are becoming increasingly rare.

2. Optimize Your Content

Your website should have the most relevant content about your subject. People want to read authoritative, engaging articles that answer their questions and provide trustworthy answers. Your unique thoughts and unique take on a topic are the first steps to writing high-quality content for WordPress. It also requires that you present your ideas in a structured and understandable manner. This will allow you to attract the right audience and keep them interested.

Find the Keyphrase to Rank for

Are you curious about the WordPress block editor?

Are you still not familiar with the new block editor? You tried it, but you found it confusing. Our free WordPress block editor course will teach you everything you need!

Before writing content, think about the search terms you would like to find. Next, optimize each page or post to a particular keyphrase.

How can you find the keyphrase that you want to rank for? You need to conduct keyword research to find out. This is where you need to ask yourself the following questions: What terms would I like to rank for? What realistic possibilities do I have of ranking for these terms?

Imagine you have a blog about baking and are passionate about sharing your favorite recipes and techniques. It’s unrealistic to optimize a post for [best cake recipe] because it’s such a broad term.

These general terms are highly competitive. It would be a good idea to think about your niche. You could choose to make French patisserie at home or healthy, low-sugar cakes.

You can be an expert in a particular niche. You can create content that is more interesting than your competitors’. Your expertise allows you to go deeper or cover different aspects of the same topic. You should focus on long-tail key phrases for this purpose.

A long-tail keyphrase could be “how to make low-calorie vegan blueberry cheesecake.” This keyphrase is easier to rank for and more specific. It will also be more relevant to your niche.

It is also essential to consider what your audience hopes to find by searching for a particular term. This is known as search intent. You can help them find the correct answer by providing the relevant information. They might also want to purchase a product you have. You can address the needs of your visitors by creating content that addresses them.

Do you need help with keyword research? This training is for keyword research. The course is part of the Yoast SEO academy. Once you sign up for Yoast Premium, you’ll get access to Academy free of charge – two essential products at a low price.

Create great content for your customers

Once you have done your keyword research and identified the topics that interest you, it’s time to start writing. It’s often easier said than done. You will need to go through writing, editing, rewriting, and drafting to get an idea into great content.

A first draft is a sketch of your structure. Although you don’t need to put everything down in perfect prose, you must stick to a logical structure. The majority of the pieces will have an introduction, your argument’s main points, and a conclusion. This structure will differ from one genre to the next – for example, a recipe might have a different structure.

The writing phase can elaborate on the points and create a complete text version. In the editing phase, make sure your piece is clear and engaging. Your audience might not be as knowledgeable about your topic as you are.

Make your writing as accessible and understandable as possible. Readability is crucial. Yoast SEO provides a readability analysis that will help you improve the quality of your writing.

Optimize your pages & posts

To make your post-SEO-friendly, pay attention to specific elements when writing or editing it. Your title, subheadings, and Meta description should all reflect the subject of your post.

SEO-friendly does not simply mean that a search engine can easily understand a page’s subject. It means your visitors can quickly grasp the essence of your page.

Visitors might click on your page if they see it in search results. Visitors can decide whether to stay on your website after visiting it. Subheadings are another vital element.

Use the exact focus keyphrase on multiple pages.

You might end up cannibalizing your content.

You don’t want multiple pages ranking for the exact keyphrase. This could lead to you being considered your competition.

The focus keyphrase should be included in all elements of your post, including the title, introduction, subheadings, and Meta description. These elements all indicate the purpose of your post. Your focus keyphrase is the main topic of your webpage. Therefore, you need to ensure that all elements reflect this topic.

This logic applies to your entire text. You need to ensure that your text stays on topic. It is crucial if you want your keyphrase to appear multiple times in your text. Don’t just stuff your writing with your keyphrase. It might indicate that your topic is not being addressed in the right way.

You can use synonyms to avoid repetition.

Search engines will detect that they share the same meaning. You can check the search results to confirm.

To optimize one page for related terms, you can also use key phrases that are related. These key phrases can be used to provide context for your keyphrase.

If your key phrase is “pumpkin soup,” your related key phrase could be “winter weeknight meals.” This second, the more general term, provides additional information about your topic. You can create coherence by linking to pages similar to your post.

Yoast SEO Premium analysis makes optimizing your posts easier thanks to synonyms, word forms, and keyphrases. Yoast SEO comes with a SEMrush integration which helps you find similar keyphrases, including volume and trend data.

SEMrush data powers the related keyphrase feature and can be used to help with keyword research

Optimize your permalink

Your focus keyphrase will make it easy to see what your page is all about. You should keep your permalinks concise, clear, and descriptive. Don’t add unnecessary words to make it seem more attractive!

You may want to remove ‘function words’ from your permalink before publishing new pages or posts. These words include “a,” “and,” or “the.” This can make your permalinks easier to read and easier to link to if done well. This approach may be beneficial for posts with long titles.

It is essential to be careful when you change the URLs of posts that have been published. Changes to URLs can cause problems if people have already linked back to your pages.

Although WordPress can sometimes redirect users to the correct location (the Yoast SEO Premium redirect manager handles this automatically and is more reliable), URL changes can impact performance.

Optimize the page title

The title of each page – the HTML content <span class=’wordai-block rewrite-block’ data-id=’293′>Tag – is one of the most important factors in ranking high in search results.</span> <span class=’wordai-block rewrite-block’ data-id=’329′>It is the title of your tab or browser window.

However, it is also the first thing people see in search results.</span> <span class=’wordai-block rewrite-block’ data-id=’299′>It is an advertisement that encourages users click and describes the page.</span>

Many websites have a default structure that doesn’t suit SEO. A title like “My blog >> Cooking >> Carbonara recipe” isn’t as compelling as “My 20-minute delicious carbonara recipe | My Blog”.

Search engines might place more importance on the first words. Therefore, it is good to position your keywords near the beginning of the title to increase your chances of ranking well.

When people scan result pages, they see the first words. Your page will be more likely to get clicked if your keywords appear at the beginning of your listing.

You can find more information on creating compelling titles for your posts in our article about crafting excellent titles for SEO.

Did you know? Yoast SEO can be used to organize your titles! Yoast SEO allows you to modify the default structure for page titles and descriptions. These are contained in two sections of the plugin. First, the plugin will be activated once you have installed it. Then, you’ll see a section called “SEO” in your WordPress admin.

You’ll find many tabs to help you navigate SEO – Search Appearance. You can create a Title Template for each type of post and taxonomy. Meta description templates are also available. This is how it looks for posts on our website, for example:

These are the settings of yoast.com for each Post URL.

You can use variables and components to set the default behavior of page titles. These can be modified page-by-page.

You can use many variables for the title and meta description. They’re all listed in the help tab.

Advanced users will find some cool new features.

You can use cf_ to access additional features. You can drop any custom field from a meta value or user meta value.

NOTE: Make sure your title tags work correctly when using these templates. It could be a problem with how your theme was built if they don’t. You might also need to check our options’ “Force rewrite” checkbox. These instructions can be used to modify your templates.

Use headings correctly

Headings can organize your content and help readers understand the information in small chunks. They can be used to describe the page’s layout or focus for search engines.

WordPress converts headings in your content to HTML tags. And so on. It is essential to consider which headings you should use and what order. This can make it challenging to comprehend your content.

The previous section discussed keyword cannibalization, which is when you write about the same topic too many times. Most of the time, duplicate content can be caused by technical issues that you may not even notice.

Some content management systems include session IDs and parameters to track URLs. You might also have non-www and www versions of the same page indexed. Multiple URLs may show the same content.

Your articles may be copied or scraped by others, besides technical reasons. There are many reasons for duplicate content.

These duplicate content tools can be used to determine if your website is suffering from duplicate content.

Solutions to duplicate content

The cause of the duplicate content problem will determine how you solve it. There are generally three options available depending on the cause.

Avoid duplicate content whenever possible. For example, if your system creates session IDs in URLs, you can disable that.

They are inevitable. These URLs can be redirected to the original version by using a 301.

Do you need to keep a duplicate of an article? You should include a link to the original version of the article in your canonical text. It will display the original article to search engines to pass the link juice to the original. This is how Yoast SEO makes it easy.

Joost’s comprehensive guide to duplicate content and its causes and solutions can help you solve duplicate content problems.

Add a canonical link

Yoast SEO makes it easy to add a Canonical Link to a Page or Post. You don’t need a developer. Go to the Advanced tab below your page or post in Yoast SEO’s meta box or the sidebar under the block editor. You’ll find the Canonical URL Field where you can enter your original article URL. This is the one that you want search engines to see.

In the advanced section of Yoast’s SEO meta box or sidebar, enter your canonical URL

Yoast SEO will create a self-referencing Canonical for you if you don’t have one. This will mean that the article will point directly to itself. SEO is more effective when self-referencing canonicals work.

Support international audiences

Optimizing your website for different languages or countries will require you to optimize your content and technical setup. Let’s begin with international SEO content.

It is essential to do targeted keyword research and write fresh content for each audience. Consider clothing items as an example.

A vest made in America is an entirely different garment than a vest made in Britain, France, Spain, or the Netherlands. Automated translations are not recommended. To optimize your keywords and copy, invest time and resources into proper research and translations.

The proper domain structure is another crucial aspect of international SEO. A different ccTLD (e.g., www.yoast.de for each variation) is generally only an option for large companies with huge budgets. Subdirectories, such as www.yoast.com/de, are best.

Search engines will display the correct version of your website to every visitor regardless of where they are located. You need to enable hreflang to help search engines. Hreflang code tells search engines which language variants of a page are available. It also helps to prevent duplicate content issues. It is a complicated piece of code.

Clarify the Content

Structured data can be thought of as a search engine’s dictionary. You can quickly clarify the content by describing it in code. You can also describe the author, where it was published, and when.

You could also let search engines know if the article included a recipe, FAQ, and how-to content. Search engines will be able to understand your site better. Search engines can use this information to improve your site’s ranking in search results.

In this digital age, structured data is vital. It was challenging to add structured data to your site. But Yoast SEO made it simple. We generate the code search engines required to make sense of your site’s connections and pages. Only a few SEO > Search Appearance options are required. If your site is personal, select Organization. Upload the right avatar or logo.

You can also create specific pages quickly with our structured data blocks. These blocks can be used in the block editor. At the moment, we have two types of FAQs and how-tos. These blocks allow you to visually create the content and generate valid structured data in the background.

Schema controls let you specify the type of page that you are working on. You can quickly add structured data to your contact page by selecting that type.

To automatically generate structured data, choose a person or Organization to be Yoast SEO

3. Optimize the Site Structure

Your users and search engines will be able to navigate your site with ease if you have a solid structure. It will also help you identify the essential pages on your site. Two pillars are essential to a well-organized site structure: internal contextual linking and organizational Organization.

Organize your website

You can organize your website to create a path from your homepage to all your pages and posts. You can make chaos order by adding categories and subcategories. Your site should look professional.

A strict hierarchy is essential for a site structure that works well.

Your homepage should be easy to navigate. Your site will be more challenging to navigate if it is too complicated. Your user can navigate your site from any location by adding a specific menu or breadcrumbs.

Connect your content to internal contextual linking

You must link your content to your website, in addition to organizing it. This is called internal contextual linking, as the links are always placed within the context of a paragraph.

Contextual links within pages create a network that points users to similar content. Linking to articles on SEO copywriting, for example, makes sense in a post about keyword research. These links give insight into the relationships between pages for search engines.

Make sure the number of links to pages reflects its importance. The ultimate guides receive a lot of links through individual posts on related topics. This allows users and search engines to see that our guides are essential pillars.

Ensure that the internal contextual link is appropriate for the page you are linking to. Anchor texts should accurately describe the page to which you are linking. This gives search engines and users the context they need to determine if the link is helpful. Yoast SEO Premium’s internal linking tool automatically suggests relevant links to help you connect your content.

Manage your tags and categories

There are two ways to organize your content in WordPress: tags and categories. Categories can be used to add structure and groups of topics. A category could include pasta on a website that is about cooking. Tags can describe your post more precisely and are not hierarchical. A tag could describe, for instance, dinner party themes.

Pick several categories when setting up your website structure. Adding them to your menu is a brilliant idea if you have only a blog. If you have multiple products and a blog, a different arrangement might be more appropriate.

Your categories should be roughly equal in size. Subcategories can be created if your categories grow too large.

A category page can make a remarkable landing page, especially for eCommerce sites.

Although tags are helpful for people interested in topics, they can be misapplied. You should not use more tags than necessary and only use one or two of them at a time. You want to group your content and not give it a description.

WordPress allows you to create custom taxonomies that organize your content differently. Make sure you can organize your content in a way that is both intuitive and helpful for your visitors with your custom taxonomy.

Manage your archive pages

You can automatically create archive pages if you use tags and categories. These pages include a list of posts and pages that belong to a particular tag or category. There are also date-based archives pages and author archives. You must manage these archive pages because they can cause SEO problems.

You want to stop search engines indexing pages from your archive that aren’t relevant. This can be done with the Yoast SEO plugin. This can be done under SEO – Search Appearance. Here you will find the following options:

Yoast SEO allows you to manage your archives

These settings are for our site. Since we don’t use date-based archives, we have disabled them. This setting will make any date-based link redirect to our homepage. The author archives have been left intact, but the subpages have been set to default, with noindex following by default.

Yoast SEO can disable author archives if your blog has only one author. If you don’t believe you need a date-based archive, disable it as we did. Even if these archives are not used in your template, they could be linked to and may break your WordPress SEO…

Customize the look of your pagination

You might be interested in how your Pagination looks and functions if you have many posts on WordPress. You might find your best content hidden deep within your site. Search engines and users may not be able to find it.

You might also consider customizing the look and function of your Pagination to make it more useful for search engines and users.

Configure your breadcrumbs

Breadcrumbs will be an excellent addition to pages and posts. Breadcrumbs are links that appear like “home > SEO blog > WordPress SEO” Two things are possible with breadcrumbs:

These allow users to navigate your website easily.

These allow search engines to find your site’s structure more quickly.

These breadcrumbs should be linked to the homepage or the post’s category. If the post is located in more than one category, it should choose one.

You will need to modify your single.php or page.php files to include the Yoast SEO plugin’s code for breadcrumbs. The SEO – Search Appearance section contains the instructions and settings. We also have a breadcrumbs block that allows you to add breadcrumbs to any page without having code written.

Manage your XML sitemaps

XML sitemaps can be used to inform Google and other search engines about the site’s recent updates. Yoast’s solution is more robust than WordPress’ native XML sitemaps. Our WordPress SEO plugin configures all your XML sitemaps automatically, so you don’t have to do anything. We create sitemaps for all your post types, including images, and ensure that they load quickly.

Google will only need to fetch one new XML sub-sitemap for each post. We have intelligently divided your sitemaps into smaller pieces.

In your SEO – Search Appearance settings, you can manage and check which types of content, archives, and templates should be included within your XML sitemaps. Search results that do not include certain content types will automatically exclude them from your XML website maps.

Our XML sitemaps support provides developers with a complete API to add and change functionality via their themes and plugins. This API is the basis of our Local SEO, News SEO, and Video SEO extensions, which generate their sitemaps. Other plugins often use our system to develop their solutions.

4. Speed up Your WordPress Website

Your users will be frustrated if your website is slow. This can make them less likely to interact, browse, convert, and visit again. This can lead to them being less likely to share or link to your pages or recommend your brand.

Speed is an integral part of WordPress SEO, and it’s a significant part of the overall user experience. Therefore, it is crucial to monitor and manage your performance, especially for mobile users or those with slower connections.

Google’s Page Experience Update puts page speed and user experience back at the forefront. Outstanding performance will be more important every day.

Measure your site speed

It can be challenging to measure the site’s speed.

Different tools can give you different scores, results, and sometimes conflicting information.

Speed up your website

After identifying the bottlenecks, it’s time to fix them.

Page speed optimization is an independent discipline that goes beyond WordPress SEO. The most significant opportunities for each site will differ from one site to another and from situation to situation. Some sites might win by changing their hosting provider or using a CDN. Others might need to reevaluate their plugins or modify how they load CSS or JavaScript.

However, this doesn’t mean you have to stop trying.

5. Protect Your WordPress Website

WordPress powers nearly 42% of the internet. It provides basic security, but you have options to improve the security of your site.

Your login is the first step. WordPress’s default username is admin. Change that username first. A hacker could easily guess your username if you don’t change it. Your password is the same. Passwords such as welcome01 and 123456 are not sufficient.

WordPress has many plugins that allow for two-factor authentication. This makes adding it to your website easy. Do it.

Regular backups

We urge you to create backups regularly. You must immediately revert any changes made to your website if it is hacked or if you make a mistake when updating a theme or plugin. You can make regular backups to ensure that you can do this.

There are many backup options available in WordPress. Many plugin developers have made user-friendly software solutions so that you don’t need to deal with the technicalities of backing up.

Choose your web host

The first step in establishing your WordPress website is choosing the right hosting company. This is just the beginning. While every host will try to assist you, it is still your responsibility to make your setup work. Cloudflare is an excellent tool for any company/website.

Limiting login attempts is a good first step. After five false logins, your login page will be closed. You are, for example, protecting your website against brute force attacks or other malicious acts that could target it.

Next, ensure your WordPress installation, including themes and plugins, is constantly updated. Security issues can also be fixed by updating. Keep your WordPress installation updated and check for new updates regularly.

Salts and Authentication Keys are used together to protect your passwords and cookies while they travel between the browser’s web server and your browser. These keys must be changed when you install a new WordPress instance.

We also recommend ensuring your template files are not editable from the WordPress backend. This can be done in Appearance > Editor. This is how hackers can add malicious code to your website by getting past your login form. This can be done by changing your wp-config file.

Logging and monitoring are recommended

Security is an ongoing task. It is crucial to monitor any security breaches and ensure that your website remains as secure as possible. Sucuri, for example, could take over some of your WordPress security.

They’ll immediately fix any hacks. Their Site check tool can be used to monitor your site.

A few plugins can help secure your WordPress website. They monitor files on your servers such as WordFence, iThemes, or Sucuri. As long as security is maintained, you can choose the plugin that suits your needs.

It’s also helpful to keep track of everything happening on your websites, such as file changes and logged-in users. WP Security Audit Log is one of many plugins and tools. These things will help you identify any issues in your installation and take action or track what happened in the case of security breaches.

6. Your mobile visitors deserve your attention

One glance around and you will see that mobile phones are quickly becoming the preferred way to browse the internet, even when we are at home on the couch. Consider your desktop and mobile site as one entity. As a website owner, you must cater to your visitors.

Statcounter reports that mobile market share surpassed desktop market share almost all of 2018. This means that optimizing only for desktop visitors is ineffective for optimizing for all visitors. It all depends on your niche, as these numbers may be different. Google Analytics can provide you with the exact numbers for each page.

This market share means that you cannot consider your mobile website an “extra.” Mobile SEO is now a must.

Make your website mobile-friendly

Make sure your website or theme is mobile-friendly after making sure it is responsive. Your website should be mobile-friendly by making sure the links aren’t too close together and that buttons can be easily clicked. You should not use too many fonts and make your images too large, in both file size and dimension.

Below are two mobile theme optimizations that I want to emphasize.

Use a responsive design

Responsive design is when your website’s design adapts to the visitor’s screen size. This can be achieved by using specific CSS media queries. Responsive design was discussed back in the past, but the principles remain the same. It is essential to consider screen sizes and how you design. Many WordPress themes now support responsive design.

No, depending on where you’re targeting. Are you already at 5G? You might need to make some changes. Consider how images are used on your website. Is your site using text enhancements and font variations that could slow down the mobile site’s performance? A responsive design allows you to create a more targeted website. This brings us to the second optimization.

Prioritize the most important things for mobile users

Look at your website from a distance. What do users want to do? Focus on the four to six most important tasks your users perform on your website. Perhaps even make the most crucial task your website user performs a call-to-action.

Let’s take an example: For a local business, your main tasks could be to call you or find the directions. These could be added to a mobile menu. For example, a bar that is visible at all times. Make your visitor’s life easier by focusing on their primary tasks.

What are the top tasks you can help your visitors accomplish? Ask your visitors! Google Analytics will show you the most popular pages on your mobile site. Further information about Analytics is available below.

Consider using AMP

You can also use WordPress to serve Accelerated Mobile Pages. Google and significant publishers launched AMP in 2015. It allows you to create mobile pages quickly and remove some of your design.

Nowadays, AMP can be used for static and dynamic content such as news articles. AMP is a strict platform, so make sure you validate your AMP pages often.

Website owners may face challenges in making sure your AMP version matches your branding. Your visitor, who is used to visiting your responsive website/desktop site, should still be able to understand that they are on your pages. The differences between these platforms’ designs can be minimized.

The official AMP plugin is available to help you kick-start your WordPress website’s AMP version. After installing the plugin, you will add an AMP version to your website.

7. Analyze your performance and make improvements

Good SEO campaigns are not just about implementing changes. They also require measuring the impact of those modifications, identifying what is working, and then doing more. Google offers two great tools that allow you to analyze the results of your website and pinpoint new opportunities.

Google Analytics is the first, and it’s best for analyzing results.  You can also see what visitors do on your website using Google Analytics. This is how you can track your SEO using Google Analytics.

This tool analyzes how your website performs and shows how visitors find you through search engines. Google Search Console is that tool. It’s simple to find opportunities for improving clickthrough rates, content, and rankings by exporting and sorting your search queries.

Get started with Google Analytics

You must create an account to get started with Google Analytics. To get started, click the “Start free” button. First, create an account name. This could be your company’s name. We recommend choosing a generic Account Name when adding other websites to your account. You can also change your Account Name at any time.

Once you have created your account, you can add a property. This is the website that you wish to add. Enter the Website URL and Website Name. For the best data collection, add the exact URL: http://or https:// with or without www.

  • Register for a new Google Analytics account

You can enable specific data-sharing settings after you have set up your property. Each option provides a clear explanation about what you will share and allows you to do so.

You are almost done! The last step is to add the tracking code to your site. After creating your account successfully and adding a property, you will see the screen with your Google Analytics tracking codes at the top.

  • Add the tag to your website

This tag must be added to your site. Installing a Google Analytics plugin, such as the MonsterInsights for WordPress, is the easiest way to accomplish this. To connect to Google Analytics, you don’t have to modify the code of your website.

8. Promote Your Site

SEO allows you to put a lot into your website’s content and ensure that search engines find it. There are many other methods to get people to visit your WordPress website and read your posts. How do you grow and get such an audience? You can’t just write posts and put them out there. You need to promote your website!

Encourage engagement

Interacting with readers is always fun. But how can you make them engage? This includes all possible ways people can interact with your post through engagement. This could include leaving comments, sharing posts on social media, or taking action.

How do you get people engaged? Ask them! Engage with your readers and ask them for their opinions. Respond to the comments to continue the conversation and build a relationship.

SEO also benefits from engagement, as it shows that your site’s alive and well.

Expand your reach

Social media is the best method to grow and reach your blog’s readership. Your potential audience should be present on social media channels you are active on. Popular social media platforms include Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Instagram. You might find it challenging to choose. Read our blog post about social media strategy: where do you start?

Create a mailing list

You can invite people to sign up, and they will receive emails with the latest blog posts and other fun facts.

Make sure you have a subscription field under your posts or in other places on your site. Mobile-friendly newsletters are essential. Make sure that your newsletter is unique!

Enhance your content

It’s becoming increasingly difficult to notice the countless blog posts published each day. There is a high chance your articles will get lost in the sea of content. You can help your content reach its full potential by amplifying it.

You’re more likely to reach new audiences if your content is unique and well-structured. You can reach new audiences outside of your natural reach by creating original content.

Perhaps advertising on Facebook and Instagram could be a great way to reach new people with your content. Analyze the channels you use already and determine where you can go further to expand your audience.

This guide covers everything from technical SEO tips to conversation and conversion tips. However, there is a catch: to rank highly for competitive terms, and you will need to do most of it and produce excellent, compelling content.

Your website is competing against every other business and website on the planet for visitors, attention, and results. This means that you must put in a lot and maintain your website’s SEO.
